We’re at the beginning of a new monthly feature on these pages, a feature on airline color schemes past and present. The COVID-19 pandemic has decimated most airline operations in 2020 and into 2021, and we are trying to focus just a little bit of positive energy onto this mass transportation mode that has brought our worlds closer together. It’ll be a monthly attraction, published on the first weekend of each month going forward.

Mid-Summer Spotting Part #3 A Recent Look at Narrow Body Traffic at Chicago O’Hare Airport.

As we wrap up our look into a recent spotting trip to Chicago O’Hare International Airport, we take a closer look at the narrow body and regional traffic. Chicago O’Hare International Airport is an important hub for both American and United and a focus city for Frontier and Spirit, naturally you will see a good portion of traffic from them.

It is quite common to see their Airbuses, Boeings, Embraer’s, and Mitsubishis arriving and departing in a variety of color schemes. Several other Domestic, Canadian, and Mexican airlines also serve O’Hare with a variety of aircraft types in several different color schemes. Chicago O’Hare never disappoints the spotter, pandemic or no pandemic as there is no shortage in interesting movements to be seen.

Mid-Summer Spotting Part #2 A Recent Look at the Freighter Traffic at Chicago O’Hare Airport.

We continue our look into a recent spotting trip to Chicago O’Hare International Airport with a closer look at pure freighter traffic. The downturn in traffic on the passenger side has been very evident since the Covid-19 Pandemic began, but that has not affected air freight in the least, with current demand often exceeding capacity.

O’Hare has always been an important and busy cargo hub, and has seen an increase in traffic with passenger aircraft being pressed into service as freighters carrying cargo in their belly holds. On any given day you will see a wide variety of freighters including numerous Boeing 747’s from Atlas Air and a variety of Boeing 767’s operating by ATSG Holdings for Amazon...
