On the way back from the 2019 EAA AirVenture Oshkosh show, I spent a little bit of time in Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, waiting for my flight back to Boston MA. Although Milwaukee and Green Bay are closer to OSH, ORD has many more direct flights and it’s easier to find a rental car there too.  After dropping my car off and going through security, I arrived at my departure gate – Gate L2A – and began working my way down to the end of the corridor. Those gates at the end are across from the international terminal, and I was rewarded with a few out-of-the-ordinary jets that I hadn’t seen in Boston before my trip. A Lufthansa A-350-900 and Air Portugal A-330-900 added interest to the assorted American and United Airlines airliners during the hour or so that I had to spare, before darkness arrived.

Chicago O’Hare International Airport In Between Flights

Untitled (10)

Passing through Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on multiple flights  from around the New Millennium, I saw a few different United Airlines color schemes, but only one American Airlines livery.  The types of aircraft that were flown back then are somewhat different today, as are the two airlines’ colors. United has added the Continental Airlines aircraft since their merger, and American has added the U.S. Airways aircraft gained through their marriage.

These photos are from the two decades between 1990 and 2010. Transports like Air Wisconsin’s BAE-146 jet and ATP turboprop (United Express carriers) have been phased out, the old United color scheme has been changed three times since the earliest orange and blue livery seen here too...

I recently spent a Saturday afternoon at Chicago O’Hare International Airport spotting and photographing. I have spotted many times at O’Hare but this day, was a day of “firsts” for me. The day started out with O’Hare in West Flow with arrivals on Runway 28C. My day of firsts began with N407KZ an all white Atlas Airlines Boeing 747-4KZF. The next arrival was 3 year old Ethiopian Airlines 787-8 ET-ASI. Alot less exotic was N846HK an Trans States Airlines Embraer EMB-145LR wearing Trans States House Colors. A pair of Boeing 747 Freighters including Western Global Boeing 747-446BCF N344KD and China Cargo Airlines Boeing 747-40BF (ER) B-2425 wearing the airlines latest colors rounded out my firsts at this location. Several other arrivals were also caught from this spot.
