Chicago O’Hare International Airport In Between Flights

Passing through Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on multiple flights  from around the New Millennium, I saw a few different United Airlines color schemes, but only one American Airlines livery.  The types of aircraft that were flown back then are somewhat different today, as are the two airlines’ colors. United has added the Continental Airlines aircraft since their merger, and American has added the U.S. Airways aircraft gained through their marriage.

These photos are from the two decades between 1990 and 2010. Transports like Air Wisconsin’s BAE-146 jet and ATP turboprop (United Express carriers) have been phased out, the old United color scheme has been changed three times since the earliest orange and blue livery seen here too...

Spotting the Whale

By: Category: Air FreightersAirlinesAirports Around the World

Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, the second busiest in the world movement-wise, never fails to please the spotter. British Airways recently became the first and only operator of the A-380 to Chicago and was one of the main reasons for my visit. British Airways currently operates one flight a day as BA297 from London Heathrow with a scheduled arrival of 1845 local time. The return flight back to London Heathrow is BA296 with a scheduled departure time from Chicago O’Hare of 2055 local time. One the day of my visit A380-841 (MSN194) G-XLEK was assigned to BA297. This particular aircraft first flew on 9-14-2015 and entered service with British on 2-3-2016 and seats 469 passengers in a 4 class seating configuration...

The calendar read February 18th, but it felt more like May 18th. Spring, almost Summer was in the air for several days during a week of record warmth in the Upper Midwest. Temperatures were in the upper 60’s to low 70’s with clear blue skies made for a perfect opportunity for some spotting and photographer! What better way to enjoy the weather than to spend it down at Chicago O’Hare Airport (KORD).

Chicago O’Hare has two different traffic patterns: West Flow with arrivals on Runways 27 Right and Left, also Runway 28 Center. Departures will be on Runway 28 Right and Runway 22 Left. East Flow will see arrivals on Runways 10 Right and Center, also Runway 9 Left. Departures will be off Runway 10 Left and Runway 9 Right. We were treated to one day of each traffic flow...
